The Office of the National Chairman (ONC) headquarters on Monday erupted into prayers, praise and thanksgiving as hundreds of Bazzukulu, religious leaders, politicians and other dignitaries gathered to celebrate the recovery of First Lady Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni.
The interfaith thanksgiving service was spearheaded by ONC Manager and Senior Presidential Advisor on Political Affairs, Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye.
The gathering brought together Christians and leaders from different faith backgrounds in a show of solidarity, with prayers offered for Maama Janet, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the nation.
For Namyalo, the occasion was not simply about celebrating the First Lady’s recovery, but also thanking God for answering the prayers of Ugandans who stood with her during a difficult period.
‘We Chose To Pray’
Addressing the congregation, Namyalo recalled the anxiety that swept across the country when reports about Maama Janet’s health dominated public discussion.
She said social media was flooded with unverified information, creating fear and uncertainty among the public.
But instead of panicking, Namyalo said many Ugandans turned to God.
“We decided to pray. We decided to seek refuge in the Almighty Lord to create a way where there was no way,” she said.
Namyalo acknowledged the role of medical professionals in supporting the First Lady’s recovery but stressed that faith gave many Ugandans strength and hope during the uncertain period.
She also challenged Ugandans to learn to appreciate positive developments instead of focusing exclusively on negativity.
“Let us give credit where it is due and not always rely on the negatives,” Namyalo said.
Pastor Bugingo Leads Prayers
Among the prominent religious figures at the thanksgiving was Pastor Aloysius Bujingo of House of Prayer Ministries International.
Bujingo joined other clerics in praying for Maama Janet, President Museveni and Uganda, adding a strong spiritual dimension to the gathering.
Namyalo hailed the religious leaders for putting aside denominational differences and coming together around a common cause.
She described faith as a powerful force capable of strengthening national unity and calming society during moments of uncertainty.
“As part of a unifying factor, it is just enough to stabilise the state. It is just enough for unity,” she said.
The event also attracted MPs, Resident District Commissioners, ONC coordinators, Women Council leaders and other political and community leaders.
Isma Wagaba, the NRM Chairman for Nakawa District, commended Namyalo for her mobilisation efforts and her role in bringing NRM members together.
Maama Janet Honoured
Namyalo also used the occasion to highlight Maama Janet’s contribution to Uganda, particularly in education, family values, youth development and national transformation.
The prayers went beyond the First Lady, with religious leaders also seeking God’s blessings for President Museveni, Uganda’s leadership and the wellbeing of citizens.
For the hundreds who gathered at Kyambogo, the thanksgiving became a powerful display of faith, gratitude and solidarity—turning a period of anxiety into a moment of hope and celebration.
