Shock and grief have engulfed the Buganda Kingdom’s Masengere Building in Mengo following the sudden death of renowned BBS Terefayina journalist and presenter Sseruwooza Joseph Mary
Sseruwooza, one of the station’s most recognizable faces,has been hosting the popular weekday morning current affairs programme “Zuukuka N’Ensonga”, where he engaged leaders, experts, and members of the public on key issues affecting the country.He also played a leading role in the station’s flagship news bulletins, including “Gambuuze” and “Ageesigika”, while regularly reporting live from Parliament on legislative and national matters.
Dustan Busulwa (Ssalongo),the station’s Chief Operations Officer,while speaking to this mighty news website, disclosed that: “Indeed, our colleague had,for the past few days,complained of being troubled by ulcers,but as you know,he continued working.
When his health condition worsened, he requested a sick leave yesterday (Thursday) morning and it was granted. He remained at home and continued self-medicating. However, in the evening, his condition deteriorated, prompting his family to rush him to Gombe Medical Services on Balintuma Road in Mmengo.
Upon examination, doctors discovered that what he had believed to be ulcers was actually a blood clot. He was immediately referred to Mulago National Referral Hospital for specialized treatment.
Doctors at Mulago confirmed the diagnosis made at Gombe and scheduled an operation to remove the clot early this morning. Unfortunately, he passed away before he could be taken to the operating theatre.”
But in the corridors of Masengere,small talks affiliate Sseruwooza’s death to witchcraft.A source in outermost pain whispered to our ears that his remarkable rise in the media industry, coupled with his sharp analytical skills and growing popularity among viewers and station executives,attracted envy from rivals and detractors who were secretly eying his position.
Our source’s dissatisfaction regarding Sseruwooza’s death was almost similar to that of Birimuye Matovu, Sseruwooza’s co-worker, who hosts a talk show known as Olutindo.
In the opening remarks of his show today,he devastatedly said that the speed at which Sseruwooza met his death,without giving them an opportunity to treat him or visit him on his sickbed, was extremely surprising
Dear readers, its imperative to note that this isn’t t the first time the public has been exposed to allegations of witchcraft within the media fraternity.
Mildred Tuhaise, one of Uganda’s familiar television personalities, revealed in an exclusive interview on Diaspora Connect, hosted by YouTuber Mary Flavia Namulindwa, how one of her legs became swollen under mysterious circumstances, leaving her with a permanent scar.
She said that around that time, she had overheard a colleague saying they wished she would permanently lose her voice.
Tuhaise also recalled having dreams in which she was forced to follow demonic paths at her workplace.
When the swelling in her leg worsened, she sought spiritual healing.
She narrated: “My husband was the one who alerted me that it was witchcraft. I reached out to a woman in the village who was knowledgeable in traditional medicine. She told me that there was a person at work who was responsible for it.”
After recovering from the ordeal, Tuhaise flee from her job as Television Presenter at the Naguru Hill based station to concentrate on farming.
In the same regard, many former employees of a media company headquartered on First Street in the Industrial Area, Kampala have also continuously cried foul about witchcraft practices at the station.
Furthermore,both former and current employees of the National Broadcaster have repeatedly alleged that the witchcraft there can only be uprooted by God Himself. Some even claim that it is too risky to leave food unattended on at the desk and later return to eat it.
Sseruwooza has been known for his calm demeanor in-depth analysis, and professional presentation style, Sseruwooza earned admiration from viewers across Buganda and beyond.His work frequently focused on governance, politics, and national affairs.
